So last night, after a great day at the bridal boutique, I settled into the couch , ate ice cream and watched about 3 hours of Say Yes to the Dress- Atlanta. It was glorious. We ourselves are wedding experts but you can never stop learning in this industry and last night I learned all about the rule: No Fox in the Hen House. I watched Lori, the owner of the store in the Atlanta episodes, she tactfully handled what she referred to as the Foxes: men who come to the bridal appointment. We at Provi have actually only had a couple of visits with grooms while their gals are donning on their dresses. Most have been pleasant and easy to work with. Today we had a dad. So here's the deal Dad's - be nice. It is your daughter's big day and they deserve your utmost support. And if you are going to give an opinion, try to remember that you are not on the golf course with your buddies, you are with your daughter and her mother and they deserve support, uplifting words and kindness. Your opinion does matter, especially if you are footing the bill but you are not the final decidingg factor in the process. When we try on dresses it's like an egg. We need to get in it, see how it looks on us first before you have your opinion. If you hatch it too quickly- you now what that leads to!! We women like to feel as though our style is our own and when you are there bringing negative statements to the experience it only makes us feel sad- for it is you we are trying to look fantastic for! There aren't anymore rules in this area. You are allowed to attend the appointment but let your attitude be good and your criticism constructive.
I love the website Zazzle.com and we use them for our bridal shows all over Dallas. They make great "I'm The Bride" Stickers that we use at the Lakeside, Duncanville and Mesquite Bridal Fairs. But today I found my new favorite thing from Zazzle: Bridal Planning Books. But not just any old Martha Stewart pick it up at Target kind of book either. Nope, these beauts are customized!! They are adorable too! I think I counted at least 12 different options to start with. So, for the girls that has to have every detail put in its place and want that book to unique just like her wedding, then this is the toll for you! Enjoy!
At Providence Place we also have Gown Preservation and we get a lot of questions about that as well. Here is some expert advice on the process. After your big day is over, and you are settled into married life, come see us at Provi and we will get your gown all taken care of for generations to come!
How to Preserve Your Wedding Gown
After you've walked down the aisle, danced the night away, and
retired for the night - don't turn your back on your wedding gown now.
(expert advice)
After you've walked down the aisle, danced the night away, and
retired for the night - don't turn your back on your wedding gown now.
Join the many other brides who simply cannot part with the significance
of their wedding gown and want to make sure that it retains its color,
texture, and form. For this task, you may seek professional assistance
or do it yourself. If you want to keep the memory of your special day
alive, you'll need to consider ways on how to preserve your wedding
gown. A few things to ponder include: Timing: Don't wait too long to preserve your wedding
gown. One of the biggest mistakes that a newly married woman can do is
hang her dress on a hanger and shove it to the back of the closet. If
you want to preserve your wedding gown to last for many years to come
- we suggest getting it in for a cleaning within the first six months
after the wedding. Proper Storage: Before you start the process of
preserving your wedding gown, make sure to properly store your dress in a
dark, dry place. Keep it flat or rolled. Don't make the mistake of
hanging your wedding gown, as it can become stretched out and suffer
damage that cannot be reversed. No Plastic: Don't store your wedding gown in plastic, as it can emit gases that create a yellowing effect. Seek the Help of a Preservation Expert: If you're
really serious about preserving your wedding gown, look beyond your
friendly local dry cleaners and seek the assistance of an expert who
knows how to preserve wedding gowns. Unfortunately, many cleaners use
bleach that can damage the delicate nature of wedding gown fabrics. An
expert can also steer you in the right direction as to the sort of
preservation method you'd like to select, which includes: dry-cleaning,
wet-cleaning, and the use of petroleum-based solvents. DIY Wedding Gown Preservation
Sometimes, you just want to preserve your wedding gown without the
help of others. To make the process much easier, consider the following:
When folding your dress, place acid-free tissue between the layers.
Unbleached muslin allows a wedding gown to breathe during storage.
Use a cedar chest or lined wooden drawer for the storage of your gown.
On a yearly basis, air out the dress. Before putting it away, fold it in different places.
Always store your wedding gown in a dark, dry location.
Ok ladies, it is officially hot, hot, hot here in Texas. We have had two days of 100 degree weather this week. If you are getting married in the summertime, here is a few suggestions to help you beat the heat.
*Wear a light powder base makeup, like Mineral Makeup. *Water proof mascara is a must. As you all know, I'm a lash freak, I love Maybelline Falsies Mascara. *Blotter papers *Wear a light fabrics, like chiffon for your wedding dress. Let your bridesmaids wear a knee length dress in a light color. *Wear your hair up and off your neck *Drink lots of water. In fact 24 hours before your big day, hydrate with lots of lemon water. *Have a few ice packs handy and place them on your pulse points. *If your getting married outdoors, plan to have your wedding at post sunset--7:00 p.m. works perfect. *At Provi, Lakeside Party Rental rents portable cooling units and misting fan's for the outdoor tents which works great. *Give cute fan's--with your names on it-- to your guest as party favors.
I hope you can "Beat the Heat" on your big day with some of these suggestions. Let us know if we can help you in anyway.
